What you’ll be doing

  • This is an exciting, newly created role that will drive the strategic transformation delivery of Virgin Australia's Flight Operations. It is well suited to an individual with strong transformation delivery experience (ideally within a Management Consulting and/or aviation environment), as well as a highly strategic mindset.
  • The Senior Manager, Flight Operations Strategy and Transformation is responsible for identification, management and delivery of the Flight Operations transformation, which helps to deliver Virgin Australia's overall strategic initiatives and overall strategy. The key responsibilities include the strong and visible leadership of the Flight Operations Transformation program, specifically identification of new transformation initiatives, planning and project management of these initiatives, and delivery of the outcomes of these projects.
  • In addition to working closely with the Head of Flight Operations Strategy and Transformation, the Senior Manager will need to manage key internal and external relationships including the executive management team, group leadership team, regulatory and industry bodies and other key stakeholders as required. 


Further responsibilities include:

  • Help to define and refine what it will take for the Flight Operations to be successful, including how we best position ourselves for our guests and how we will measure up against the competition
  • Lead strategic initiatives across Flight Operations, ensuring the successful execution of the Flight Operations Strategy and Transformation. This ensures there is clear scope, timelines, implementation strategy and desired outcomes
  • Lead in the identification and delivery of major transformational initiatives, including developing a roadmap. Specifically, in conjunction with business leaders and SMEs, identify and prioritise new strategic transformation opportunities and then work with the specific departments to execute
  • Support initiative prioritisation within the team and broader organisation
  • Develop and enhance the leadership culture of the Group through role modelling of values and leadership behaviours
  • Identification and use of large data sets and then analysis to develop insights
  • Develop senior management / executive level presentation materials
  • Support the application of robust financial analysis, including airline operating economics, to inform strategic opportunities


You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • 5+ years experience in Strategy and Transformation (e.g. Management Consulting, Investment Banking or Corporate Strategy/ Transformation roles). 
  • Extensive experience leading transformations including identification, planning, and delivery of change and benefits
  • Highly developed complex problem-solving skills using structured methods
  • Ability to think strategically and implement initiatives in a way that deliver upon business outcomes
  • Ability to delivery change effectively and efficiently
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence key internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Advanced financial and business case modelling
  • Executive level communication and presentation skills
  • Business economics and key success drivers
  • Knowledge and interest in aviation
  • Residence in either Sydney or Brisbane (or you are willing to relocate to Brisbane or Sydney)
